In 2011, Laurel Suffragette was conceived as a character that had witnessed the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory disaster, which caused the deaths of garment workers in N.Y.C. in 1911. She appears in Vancouver’s fashion district to gage the pulse of today’s fashion industry. This intervention was ironically staged before the Rana Plaza garment factory collapse in Bangladesh in 2013, where workers also died because they were locked in the building during a fire.
