The word Claim was planted with grass seed and allowed to grow on land that was once the native village of Snauq. The Grass grew over several months and was documented on a regular basis. The word is meant to question how the ownership of land is claimed in different cultures. Here, as in most Western countries, the colonial law of building a permanent shelter is what determined who lay claim to the land, which is contrary to the native view of sharing the land. This installation corresponds to the larger Belonging; sous le pont project.
